John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts Education from Moorhead State University, a Master of Arts degree from St. Cloud State University and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas.
He has thirty-four years of experience in the field of Education in Minnesota serving as a Special Education teacher, Director of Special Education, Superintendent and Education District Executive Director.
He served as Superintendent of Schools for the Kimball Area Public Schools in central Minnesota where he led the district through a strategic planning initiative implementing the Cambrian framework for planning. He served as the Executive Director of the Central Minnesota Educational Research and Development Council for three years prior to his retirement. In that role he produced a white paper entitled “Data-Drive Decision-Making: A Powerful Tool for School Improvement.”
Mr. Messelt has been active in his professional organizations having served on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators and being elected to the position of President of the Minnesota Administrators of Special Education. In 2012 he was awarded the Minnesota Administrators of Special Education’s “Legacy Award” for serving as a model leader for other Special Education administrators.
As an Associate with The Cambrian Group he has provided training for strategic planning and facilitated strategic plans for school districts and organizations throughout the United States and Canada.
